Why Dusan Jelic blogs about wine?
Dear readers,

It would be inappropriate to call this fresh blogging initiation my “Road to Damascus moment”, referring to a single moment of recognition of one’s true self, but it is indeed a significant development for me. It should help me express my special wine moments and preserve them for future readers, drinkers, connoisseurs and other wine aficionados. I believe that a few background information about me would help a reader understand the motives behind this vinous exercise.

Who?

My name is Dusan Jelic, and I am 41 years old male, currently living in Cape Town, and after doing various things for many years last May I entered the South African wine industry. That allowed me to enjoy my work literally and metaphorically. More information about me could be found here: http://www.linkedin.com/in/dusanjelic

Where?
Cape Town’s suburb Sea Point, a place where Atlantic Ocean waves mercilessly crash against the pristine coastline is my current inspirational retreat. South African Cape Winelands region is a unique terroir in the whole world. More than 600 producers within a radius of 300 hundred kilometers or so are able to produce in excess of 5,000 different wine labels. At least a few hundred of those labels are world class products including a couple of dozen masterpieces every global wine connoisseur should dream about, day and night, night and day…

Why?
Wine was my passion for a long while and I always enjoyed wine without actually thinking let alone talking about it with my friends. Superb wines from Dalmatian region of Croatia (various vines made from truly phenomenal Plavac Mali grapes, Pošip, Vugava, Malvazija) started shaping my palate some twenty years ago as well as a great passion to wine my dad always communicated to me. His sobriety notwithstanding, a glass of good wine could always put him in that special mood, when all the secrets of the world could be unlocked, described and poetically preserved in our souls. Cheers!

When?
My desire is to publish here at least one post from 500 to 1,000 words every working day of any week in order to keep my wine senses awake and record all important steps of my road to wine discovery. Therefore some 5 posts a week should appear here as a result of my vinous scribblings.

Motives?
After working, studying, wondering and loitering for some 22 years in ex-Yugoslavia and South Africa I realized that the most important thing in life is to work in a field that you immensely love and enjoy. It may not necessarily be a life where you can live in peace, tranquility and opulence, but your passion will inevitably bring inner peace, a virtue impossible to buy, trade, replace or order. Thus, please live your passion and hope for the best. God Bless you all!

I am now proposing a toast to all of you who may be reading my scribbling with a glass of exceptional South African wine, namely renown Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 (which is a truly masculine wine that ladies can enjoy as well). Cheers!
