Here are 10 facts about WSET:
- WSET was established in 1969 in the UK grown out of the Wine and Spirit Association’s Education Committee with the financial assistance of the Vintners’ Company.
- WSET wine courses are the acknowledged benchmark in the wine industry.
- WSET wine courses are taught in more than 55 different countries in 17 languages.
- 36 500 candidates sat one or other of the WSET exams in the 2011 academic year.

- The WSET Diploma (level 4) is viewed universally as the stepping-stone to the Master of Wine qualification.
- There are presently 299 qualified Masters of Wine. There are four South African MW's: Greg Sherwood, Lynne Sherriff, Cathy van Zyl and Richard Kershaw.
- WSET wine courses level 1, 2 and 3 are now available in South Africa thanks to WSET Approved Programme Provider Cathy Marston. (please click here for more info)
- The South African WSET level 3 course will be presented by both Cathy van Zyl MW and Richard Kershaw MW.
- The WSET wine courses are for everyone, former England rugby international Andrew Sheridan has recently been awarded his WSET Level 3 (Advanced) Award.
