In the past month I've been attending the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 "exploring the world of wines and spirits" course presented by Approved Programme Provider (APP) Cathy Marston.

Tasting wine is an experience/exercise that can be classified in one of two ways:

- a relaxing and enjoyable event that is usually paired with good company, good food and a good chat OR
- an intricate and time consuming exercise analysing every sensory sensation to determine the wine's profile and characteristics.

It's not every day that one gets the opportunity to be in the company of an iconic winemaker such as Ken Forrester, and therefore I was quite elated at the invitation to spend the afternoon with a group of journalists having 'T' at the Mount Nelson.

On Saturday (27 August), I had the opportunity to join the Great Wine Capitals Global Network bus for a tour of the South African winelands with a group of bloggers to help in the evaluation of five wine farms that have entered the Best of Wine Tourism 2012 awards in various categories.

Last night I was invited to attend the Women of wine event at Asara Wine Estate and Hotel where a group of 20 women were entertained in the red wine barrel cellar.

Yesterday I attended the informal 'family-style' launch of Avontuur's latest additions.

We were greeted with a glass of the Avontuur Blanc de Blanc MCC NV (which a little bird told me is made predominantly from the 2006 vintage).
