Classical music concerts are presented monthly in the historic cellar, where a varied selection of music is performed by renowned local as well as international artists. A special attraction is a Steinway piano dating from World War II, used during concerts.

11 May: Bryan Wallick (piano)
La Motte’s May Concert commemorates composers Liszt, Verdi and Wagner (all born 200 years ago in 1813) with a recital that includes Liszt piano transcriptions of work by Verdi and Wagner.
Bryan Wallick is gaining recognition as one of the great American virtuoso pianists of his generation. Gold medalist of the 1997 Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kiev, he has performed throughout the United States, Europe and South Africa. He made his New York recital debut in 1998 at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall and his Wigmore Hall recital debut in London in 2003.
At La Motte, he also performed Haydn’s Sonate in C Major, Hob. XVI:
13 July: French Festivities
As part of the annual Bastille festival in Franschhoek, acclaimed South African soprano ZanneStapelberg and well-known pianist Francois du Toit will present a special programme of French music which includes Je Veux Vivre from Roméo et Juliette by Gounod, Fantoches from Fête Galante and Nuit et Jour by Cole Porter, as well as select piano works by Chopin. The programme will conclude on a lighter note with works by Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf.
