Soup Bread Bowls
Something unique and interesting at Bodega this winter - we are serving our soup in a bread bowl!!

This is a novel way to impress your guests this coming winter - I know our customers are!!

Recipe
  • 7 cups bread flour (1kg)
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 packets of instant yeast or 40g fresh yeast
  • 675ml water
Preheat oven to 200°C.
Place flour, salt, yeast and oil in mixer using the dough hook attachment.
Add 500ml of water and allow dough to come together.
Add extra water if too dry or some more flour if dough is too wet. Mix for about 6 minutes.
The dough should become smooth and elastic.
Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in it and allow it to rest for approx. 40 minutes. The dough should double in size.
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions (approx. 300g each).
Roll these into round shapes, roll them in flour and place on baking sheet.
These should be left to prove for another 30 minutes or until doubled in bulk.

Place in the heated oven. Bake for about 15 minutes or until bread is done. Remove and cool on wire racks.
       
To make the bowls – cut a 'lid' off each bowl, scoop out the middle and brush the inner surface with olive oil. Brush the oil over the outside of the bowl for a nice colour! Put back in oven and bake for another 5 minutes to crisp up the shells.
Fill with a yummy soup and enjoy!
