TOPS at Spar Gugulethu Wine Festival - May 2013
Judy, Sheryl & Zwai from wine.co.za had a blast at the 3rd annual Tops at Spar Gugulethu Wine Festival. Friday evening in the township is all abuzz, and as we drove in through Gugulethu, there was such a buzz of activity and dancing and delight, it was a delightful change from the contrasting quiet white leafy suburbs! The festival was quiet to begin with, but soon started humming with angels, sainted halos adorning most guests, stunning bejewelled makeup and fun brands who braved the new world. The festival is on again on Saturday 25th May - so get there before you miss out on this buzzy vibey event. Dress up and have fun!

Nederburg New Year's Eve Spectacular
More than 2 000 people gathered in song and cheer to welcome 2013 at Nederburg's New Year's Eve Spectacular, with renowned Richard Cock conducting the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) at the popular Paarl winery. The light classical and popular musical event also featured jazz vocalist Melanie Scholtz (named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz in 2010); exciting new tenor talent, Derick Ellis; classical-pop, cross-over singer Selim Kagee; as well as Heavenly Quartez, a popular male Afro-classic and jazz-infused quartet from Khayelitsha. Said brand home manager of Nederburg, Fre-Nay Brown: "There was such excitement about the talented line-up of entertainers, we hosted about 600 more people than the previous year." ?The scenic location and electric atmosphere made for a memorable start to the year, added Richard Cock. ?I was very impressed with the audience's attentiveness and spirited responses to the CPO and soloists? performances." Veritas 2012 Awards Dinner at CTICC - 6 Oct 2012
The CTICC was abuzz again last night with the South African Wine industry during the annual glittering Veritas Awards dinner. Over 1744 wines were entered, with only 58 achieving Double Gold. Old faithfuls KWV(7 Double Golds, 7 Golds), Nederburg(4DG 12G), Jordan (3DG), Simonsig(2DG 7G), Boplaas(2DG,3G), Cederberg(2DG,2G), Windmeul(2DG,2G), Guardian Peak(2DG,1G) Perdeberg(1DG,2G), Graham Beck(1DG,1G), Kleine Zalze(1DG,1G) and Rooiberg, Villiera(1DG, 1G) were some of the top achievers, with a few newer names in there too - Marianne(1 DG, 3 G) & Nabygelegen(1 DG). Hat's off to the winners, judges, organisers and catering staff - wonderful evening.

Four new gourmet wines celebrate Nederburg's past
Nederburg has created four new gourmet wines to be sold exclusively through specialist retailers and fine dining establishments. Known collectively as the Heritage Anthology, they are individually named in honour of a personality who has played a major role in shaping the winery's reputation.

Nederburg's dusk harvesting and picnic
This year's Harvest Day at Nederburg started on a beautiful summer afternoon with visitors being shown how to hand-pick the grapes, which they stomped later. To follow the taste journey from grape to bottle, they also sampled red and white wine must (unfermented grape juice). As the sun set, guests settled for a picnic in front of the 19th century Manor House under the picturesque half moon, sipping Nederburg while listening to talented instrumental group, Sterling EQ.

Nederburg celebrates its most awarded wines of 2011
Some of the country's top-notch wine and foodie media gathered in the presidential suite of the Taj Hotel Cape Town when Nederburg recently commemorated its most lauded wines of 2011. Guests tasted 10 wines and noshed on delicious canapes while admiring the magnificent view from the top floor of the five-star hotel. The event was hosted by cellarmaster Razvan Macici and red winemaker Wilhelm Pienaar.

A group of Johannesburg wine enthusiasts recently attended a showcase of Nederburg's best rewarded wines of 2011 at the sensational Southern Sun Hyde Park. While mingling with cellarmaster Razvan Macici and red winemaker Wilhelm Pienaar, they enjoyed delicious canap?s and tasted 10 Nederburg wines that earned trophies, best-in-class ratings and gold medals at prominent local and international competitions during 2011.

Nederburg Winemasters: Razvan Macici
Since taking over as cellarmaster of Nederburg in 2001, Razvan Macici has shown a remarkable versatility in building both the reputation and portfolio of the Paarl winery. He has proved equally adept at making red, white and dessert wines for which Nederburg had become especially well-known under Gunter Brozel, and he has continued to win kudos for wines across the range, from accessibly styled, popular offerings to those targeting connoisseurs.

Nederburg 2011 Harvest Day
Much fun was had at Nederburg's 2011 Harvest Day as guests picked and stomped grapes on a lovely summer's day in Paarl. A delicious barbeque-style brunch and award-winning Nederburg wines, served on the rolling lawns in front of the 19th century Manor House, concluded the experience.

John Platter launch Nov 2010
The 2011 green 31st edition of the John Platter guide was launched this evening (16th Nov 2010) at the Capelands Restaurant on the windy Sir Lowry's Pass road. A record 58 wines made the 5-star cut, including 10 first time 5 star winners. Nederburg was named Winery of the Year - a great accomplishment for Rasvan Macici who also celebrates 10 years at Nederburg this month.
