WINE ROUTE:

Tucked away on the lush banks of the tranquil Dwars River, at the foot of the Wolfberg, Sanddrif is the ideal base for nature lovers and the adventurous: trail hikers, mountain bikers and rock climbers. Accessible but retaining an air of remoteness, this is the perfect break for city-dwellers. The less fit can enjoy the cool crystal-clear waters of the Maalgat pools only a 20 minute walk away, wander through The Valley of the Red Gods or watch the sun setting the mountains on fire. Come back to a welcoming campfire for a relaxed evening under the star-studded sky.

THE CEDERBERG CONSERVANCY
This vast wilderness area, covering almost 172 000 ha, offers hiking routes for people of all levels of fitness. Spectacular rock formations - including the Maltese Cross, Wolfberg Cracks, Wolfberg Arch, Tafelberg, Sneeuberg and Lot's Wife - attract mountaineers and hikers. Wonderful "fynbos" and a wide range of wildlife make this a must-see area for all nature-lovers.

All permits are issued at the office only and should be arranged on arrival. Ask the office staff for recommended hikes which they will advise according to the guests' arrival. It is recommended to start 90% hikes at sunrise, especially in summer. In winter hikers should take note of the weather conditions.

Permits are issued indicating the day of the hike and should be used accordingly - it can be changed at the office. Take note that certain permits are available not only at the Sanddrif office, but also at Cape Nature's offices and at neighboring farms. An intricit network of hikes (on private and government land) criss-cross the area and it is best to ask, once you are on the farm, how this works. The hikes are often three hours or more.
