Come and join us at Excelsior Estate for a taste of history.

Over 300 years ago when Jacobus de Wet, the first member of the de Wet family to arrive in South Africa, docked in Cape Town he was armed with little more than an entrepreneurial spirit and a love of wine. As an official of the Dutch East India Company he made planting vines a priority and went on to buy a large farm in Stellenbosch. Jacobus was one of the first wine makers in Cape Town and the Southern hemisphere.

Since then, there have been generations of de Wet vinophiles. In the three centuries since Jacobus arrived, the family have perfected the art of making fine wines and have been presented with numerous awards over the last decade.

Visitors to Excelsior are invited to sample some of these award-winning wines in the wooden beamed tasting room which overlooks the vineyards and a dam. The Langeberg Mountain range forms a backdrop in a palette of purple and blue reflected in the dam where water birds make their home. Sharing a bottle of wine with friends while sitting on the deck of the tasting room taking in the view is an idyllic way to spend an afternoon.

You're invited to become an honorary member of de Wet and take up the tradition of blending your own varietal to combine generations of skill and flair with your own style. You can then bottle your blend, cork and label it as your 'own creation'.

Cellar tours are available. Groups of up to 10 people are welcome but as this is a working farm booking in advance is essential.
