Charles Back founded the Spice Route Winery in 1997. Charles had bought the farm Klein Amoskuil, and this Malmesbury based farm is now home to Spice Route's Swartland terroir styled wines. more »

In 1997 Charles Back, having established Fairview in Paarl as one of South Africa's most successful and popular wine estates, bought a farm called Klein Amoskuil near Malmesbury in the Swartland region north-west of Paarl, then rather better known for its wheat than its wine. more »

Spice Route: In The Cellar
The Spice Route cellar is in the heart of the Swartland region, near a town called Malmesbury. The first harvest to pass through the cellar was in 1998 and the first few vintages saw 400 to 500 tons of fruit arriving at the cellar during the months of February and March each year. more »
