Silent support
You can’t look back on the vintage without realising how dependent you are on your fellow winemakers and your cellar team; in my case, on Willie, Mot, Jaco, Tiaan and Anet, on Derek, Balie, Setjhaba, Jeffrey, Sanele, Alfred, David and Eleveno.

Du Toitskloof Newsletter - March 2013
Surprise, surprise!
And there I was, thinking life might be ever so slightly easier this vintage compared to last year's, as our careful preliminary estimates indicated we would be pressing close to as much as 1 000 tons less. Not exactly!. As the grapes started coming in we constantly had to review our estimates upwards to where we now expect the harvest to be very close to last year's record intake of 16 400 tons. And the quality of the grapes is on a par with the very high standards set in 2012.

Du Toitskloof Newsletter - February 2013
Since talking to you last, the pace in the cellar has picked up appreciably. It's not quite frenetic yet, but we are rapidly moving in that direction! We received the first grapes at the cellar early this month and at the time of writing had pressed close to 4 000 tons which means we're about 25% there. My guess is we shall press somewhere between 15 500 and 15 800 tons in total and so likely to be marginally down on last year's record crop of 16 400 tons. more »

Keep your fingers crossed!
It was exhilarating to find, on coming back from a most relaxing holiday, that all the promise of the forthcoming harvest has been abundantly realised in the time I was away. The news is good throughout the Winelands and those in the know predict that we can expect a harvest which will be the third biggest in this history of our industry.
