Now in its 11th year, the competition is widely regarded as the country's most rigorous wine selection process. The single night tastings present around 100 wines which achieved Trophy, Gold and Silver medals at the judging in May, when close to 1 000 wines were assessed blind by a panel of highly regarded international and local palates.
As before, Trophy Wine Show patrons can expect to sample the very best wines entered into the 40 different categories. Since these tastings include an array of the top achievers in both regular and lesser-known grape varieties, they serve to showcase the best of South African wines. Both events are held shortly after the announcement of results and while there are still stocks of the top wines for collectors seeking to add the best of current release Cape wines to their cellars.
The list of wines and producers in attendance at the public tastings are kept under wraps until 30 May when the Most Successful Producer and the full results of the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2012 will be announced on www.trophywineshow.co.za.
All wines present at the tastings can be ordered at special prices via Makro at the public tastings.

The international judges were: Brian Croser (Winemaker and industry icon, Australia); Anthony Rose (UK and Asian wine columnist) and Tom Cannavan (Scottish wine blogger – see www.wine-pages.com and UK wine broadcaster).
The South African judges were Ginette de Fleuriot CWM (Marketing Manager, Vinimark), Gary Jordan (proprietor-winemaker, Jordan Wines), Christian Eedes (wine writer and blogger – see www.whatidranklastnight.co.za), Angela Lloyd (wine judge and writer), James Pietersen (head sommelier of Belthazar and Balducci restaurants) and François Rautenbach (Head, Premier Wine Programme, Singita Lodges).
