SA Cheese Festival

After eleven successful years the SA Cheese Festival has firmly lodged itself in the hearts of thousands of cheese lovers. This year more than 32 000 people visited the four day long festival held at Sandringham from 27 to 30 April - proof that cheese is increasingly capturing the imaginations of foodies.
“Thousands of happy visitors tasted and bought some 35 tons of cheese,” says Johan Ehlers, CEO of Agri-Expo. “The allotted number of tickets was sold out for both Saturday and Sunday.” The organisers annually limit the number of tickets for each day to ensure that visitors are treated to an optimal experience. “The Cheese Festival has become a trend setter where the use and enjoyment of cheese is concerned and cheese lovers make the most of the unrivalled variety of cheese that is available from across the country.”

Ladismith Cheese has been a sponsor of the festival for the past decade and feels that being here makes perfect marketing sense: “The Cheese Festival contributes to a more informed cheese consumer and over the span of just four days our products are exposed to a wide spectrum of visitors,” says Rian van der Merwe, Marketing Manager of Ladismith Cheese.

Peter and Francy Schoeman, from Langbaken Karoo Cheese (Williston) brought their cheese to the festival for the first time: “Our enterprise is fairly new and we’re 700km away from the Cape’s larger food markets, but now it feels as though everyone that loves cheese knows about us,” says Francy, Langbaken’s cheese maker. “It is tremendously satisfying to receive immediate feedback from consumers.”

Next year the SA Cheese Festival will take place from Friday 26 April to Sunday 28 April, with an interesting experience awaiting visitors on the Friday. Visit www.cheesefestival.co.za for feedback and photos of this year’s festivities.
