Next dates for Wine and Spirit Education Trust wine courses
20 July 2012  by The International Wine Education Centre
The International Wine Education Centre is delighted to announce the next dates for all levels of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) wine courses INCLUDING Level 2 and Level 3, now available as Distance Learning options for non-Capetonians!
Level 1 is an excellent course for any customer-facing staff and provides a broad basis of understanding wine varieties and styles, plus lots of useful information about service and storage of wines and matching them to different types of food. There are two courses scheduled, one at Hermanuspietersfontein Winery from 21st to 23rd August and the other at Backsberg Wine Estate from 3rd to 5th September.

Level 2 is also suitable for beginners and follows some of the best-known grape varieties from their traditional ‘homes’ in Europe to around the globe. This course is an excellent all-round qualification for anyone interested in wine and spirits, in particular, international wine styles. Over 40 wines and spirits will be tasted on this course. This will run at Glen Carlou on the 8th and 9th September with the exam on 15th September.

Level 3 is a highly professional qualification which isn’t suitable for beginners. It takes students on an in-depth journey around the world, identifying and discussing key styles, varieties, climates, soil types and successful candidates will have a high level of knowledge which will stand them in excellent stead for any dealings with buyers, sellers or tasters of wines both at home and overseas. The course will start 18th October at Dear Me Restaurant in Cape Town and will run over the following four weeks with the exam 13th December.

Level 2 and Level 3 are both now available as Distance Learning options which opens up the world of WSET to those people who live outside the Western Cape.

All the details of all the courses offered are on the website – www.thewinecentre.co.za – and if you need more information or advice as to which level you should start on, please drop us an email.
