Allée Bleue presents this Summer's 'Chicnics'
26 July 2012  by Allée Bleue Wine Estate
In anticipation of the Cape's summer days ahead, Allée Bleue Wine Estate in Franschhoek presents this season's 'chicnic' - the most stylish way to lunch al fresco.
Starting on 1 September, visitors to the picturesque winelands estate can enjoy a sumptuous sit-down picnic with wicker baskets full of delicious summery food designed to eat in a leisurely fashion with friends and family. And children are very welcome too with their own little picnic hampers packed with nourishing treats and sweet surprises. A safe play area and a duck pond provide a welcome diversion for youngsters, freeing up parents to truly relax.

The elegant yet relaxed setting at Allée Bleue is what transforms this classic al fresco way of eating into a ‘chicnic’ – a chic picnic. Bordered by a Cape Dutch-style whitewashed wall, the picnic area has lush lawns with comfortable garden furniture decked in crisp, checked="checked" napery and shaded by cool white umbrellas. Experienced service staff adds up to a very civilized yet relaxing ambience.

This summer, there is a choice of two exciting, flavour-packed menus: a standard menu (including tasty meats) and a vegetarian menu, both priced at R155 per person and prepared as either a standard or vegetarian basket for two adults sharing. The selection includes patés, dips, cheese, salads, French bread and a dessert (see full descriptions of the menus under Editor’s Notes). The price of the basket also includes an informal tasting of Allée Bleue’s selection of wines at the picnic area, still or sparkling water and tea or coffee. For children, there is a mini picnic or charmingly known on the farm as the ‘sticknic’ for R55 per child, including fruit juice.

Picnic baskets must be ordered in advance (preferably the day before) and are delivered to guests at the table along with an ice bucket to ensure that refreshments remain perfectly chilled. Chilled Allée Bleue wines are available to purchase by the glass or bottle.

Commencing 1 September, Allée Bleue’s ‘chicnics’ are available 7 days per week. Picnics must be booked in advance and are weather dependent. On Sundays, live music adds a welcome lively dimension and children are well looked after with a host of kids entertainment. Allée Bleue Wine Estate also caters for picnics to corporate groups in a separate garden area, ideal for stylish end of year company events.
