Specialist Cabernet Franc for Woolworths
27 July 2012  by Raats Family Wines
Leading South African retailers Woolworths have chosen the Raats Granite Blocks Cabernet Franc 2010 to be listed in their wine sections. This luscious Cabernet Franc from producer Bruwer Raats will be on shelf in July and will retail from R140.
According to Woolworths wine buyer Ivan Oertle, this Cabernet Franc will aid their efforts to introduce more niche cultivars to their customers. “We wanted to source a premium Cabernet Franc brand produced by a specialist and expert Cabernet Franc producer. The Raats Granite Blocks label will be exclusive to Woolworths and will help to increase our Cabernet Franc offering. Bruwer met all our requirements and his wine fitted the profile perfectly,” explains Oertle.

The Raats Granite Blocks Cabernet Franc has been crafted for Woolworths from select granite blocks specially identified by Bruwer and specifically suited to Cabernet Franc grapes. This wine expresses great purity of fruit and offers a balanced elegance. The wine further displays succulent red fruits with a beautifully smoky, mineral quality and is once again a superb example of the often underrated varietal.

According to Bruwer Raats, the listing is definitely an affirmation of the consistent quality of his Cabernet Francs based on his extensive experience and success gained during the past twelve years with this varietal. “As a company, Woolworths is renowned for their commitment to high quality products and stringent selection criteria are applied before they would stock a product. Woolworths have a very detailed brief, which has to be met before they will list any wine and I definitely consider it a compliment that they have chosen the Granite Blocks. It will also significantly improve accessibility for consumers to try my wine. The wine is ready to drink, but will age well for the next three years or longer with the proper storage conditions,” mentions Raats.

Raats recommends the Raats Granite Blocks Cabernet Franc 2010 as a perfect pairing partner with pork loin with plum and Armagnac sauce, beef fillet with truffle sauce, game bird with red wine sauce or any springbok, ostrich or kudu dishes.
