La Vierge Estate, a place for serious wine-lovers
07 August 2012  by La Vierge Wine Estate
La Vierge is a private wine estate situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. Overlooking the enchanting valley below, the estate draws its inspiration from its magnificent vistas and from the abundant freshness of the sea air, to produce a tantalizing selection of white and red wines.
The La Vierge crest takes its inspiration from the sketches and drawings of renowned British artist, Sir Michael Adams. Representing Adam and Eve, the crest delightfully juxtaposes innocence and indulgence with its image of Eve pondering the Serpent and Apple, mirroring the unspoilt beauty of the virgin terroir which yields luxurious wines which match the verdant landscape.

The wines reflect this Garden of Eden theme, with names and styles suggesting a lush paradise intertwined with purity, simplicity, innocence and temptation.

The wines are a product of passion, commitment and faith: passion in the art of making beautiful wines; commitment to striving for new creative ways to enable visitors to enjoy the wines; faith in the seed planted and the growing into the grape, which holds the promise of the wine to come.

The La Vierge restaurant combines beauty, culinary indulgence and unsurpassable views. Situated at La Vierge Private Cellar in the stunning Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, the restaurant overlooks the picturesque valley with its vineyards and farmlands as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The wine list is focused on highlighting the quality wines produced from La Vierge. La Vierge Restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday to Sunday. Private functions can be organised by request.

La Vierge Wines

Anthelia Shiraz-Mourvedre
Ancient legend calls the ability to see angels on earth 'Anthelia'. This ability was reserved from a select few and usually occurred in a fabulous shower of shimmering light. Such a celestial vision was a rare and wonderful occurrence. One sip of Anthelia and you will see the magnificent shimmering light and if you listen carefully, you will hear the divine whispering of angels.

This wine expresses the typical contribution of floral and spice perfume of Shiraz along with the textured and rustic notes of the savoury Mourvedre. Enjoy with grilled duck, springbok and cheese platters.

Jezebelle Chardonnay
Jezebel, how many have you enchanted with your painted lips, your mysterious gaze, your treacherous smile? Into how many dreams did you step with your promise of sensual love? How many yearned for your perfumed breast? Your nature has remained an enigma but the power of your legend lives on in La Vierge Chardonnay, a wine with a delightful, distinctive and alluring character.

The wine expresses the zip and texture of the clay based soils on the palate and aromatic lime, white floral and mineral character on the nose. It combines well with seafood and white meat dishes.

The Last Temptation Riesling
Time moves. Seasons change. Temptation remains. And things of the flesh continue to delight as the deep valleys whisper of luscious fruits and secret delights and you submit to the cool embrace of the ocean breeze. Ah, Riesling, ah bliss...I dream of you on summer days. Crisp. Alive: The dance of ages on your palate.

The wine expresses chiselled melon and terpene perfume on the nose with the typical racy and textured follow through on the palate. Enjoy with spicy and perfumed stir fry dishes and eastern salads.

Original Sin Sauvignon Blanc
The wine shows a concentrated tropical melon and pear drop, with a hint of lemon grass character and a full mineral follow through on the palate.

Satyricon
Satyricon is a Latin work of satirical fiction written by Gaius Petronius in the early days of the roman Empire. This rare example of a Roman novel tells a story of lust, love and temptation through man's deliberate journey to attain knowledge and wisdom, even if it is at the expense of his cherished innocence.

This wine shows the gamy tea leaf character of Sangiovese, the red fruit and spice of the Nebbiolo and the bright cherry fruit character of the Barbera. Chunky tannin and a bright acidity will see this wine drinking well on release and developing for at least 5 - 7 years. Enjoy this wine with creamy pastas, mushroom risottos and cheese platters

Nymphomane
In Greek mythology nymphs are nature's spirits that appear as beautiful young women, and personify the creative activities of nature such as being associated with a life-giving spring or water source. Today nymphs refer to maidens or young women who are ready for marriage. This wine leans towards an elegant cool-climate feminine style.

This wine expresses the typical contribution of cassis and Bordeaux-like herbaceous flavours from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, along with the savoury red berry and earthy contribution of the Malbec. Bold tannins and an elegant mineral core will see this wine drinking well on release and developing for at least five to seven years. Enjoy this wine with red meat, venison and cheese platters.

La Vierge Pinot Noir
Whether a mythically pagan goddess of feminine power as Isis, or the popular Catholic depiction of the Virgin Mary with a darker complexion as reflected in statues or paintings around the work, the Black Madonna or Blanc Virgin is an apt name for our maiden Pinot Noir.

The wine expresses the typical earthy and savoury aroma of this fine Burgundy variety and is backed by a red fruit character. Enjoy with mushroom risotto, roast game, cream-based pasta and hard cheese platters.

La Vierge encourages consumers to enjoy their products responsibly. Products are not for sale to persons under the age of 18.
