Taylors Wines introduces screw caps for sparkling

Australia-based winery Taylors Wines has introduced a new screw cap seal to replace corks on its sparkling wine.
The seal is similar to the screw caps that have superseded cork in most of Australia’s white and red table wine industry. The new seal can withstand the pressure of sparkling wine.

The move follows a small number of Australian producers who have topped specialist sparkling wines with beer bottle-like crown seals.

In 2004, when Taylors figured out problems with taint in cork that spoiled white wines, it replaced the entire range of its rieslings with screw caps.

This is such sad news for anyone enjoying the romance of opening a great bottle of bubbly. Never again will anyone buying a bottle of their bubbly experience the celebratory pop of the cork, which has become synonymous with celebrations and festivities. Hopefully this is one trend that will not catch on. One can only hope... Wonder if you can sabrage these screwcaps? I think not...
