Blaauwklippen/FELCO Agrimark Pruning Competition winners

The fourth annual Blaauwklippen/FELCO Agrimark Pruning Competition took place on Wednesday 8 August at Blaauwklippen. The competition was started to give farm workers a platform to show off their pruning skills, and to act as an educational experience to explain why and how vines are pruned.
Twenty four pruners from in and around Stellenbosch took part for prizes to the value of R5 000, courtesy of Felco and Agrimark Stellenbosch. After the winners were announced all the participants, sponsors and vineyard owners enjoyed lunch at Blaauwklippen.

The competition was concluded in a block of eleven year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines and judges, Johan Viljoen and Conrad Schutte from VINPRO were very impressed with the overall standard of entries.

The third spot went to Denise Swart from Simonsig with a total of 96.5%, the second place belonged to Manuel Williams from Asara with a total of 97% and the 2012 champion pruner was Jan van der Merwe from Neethlingshof with a total of 97.5%.
