The South African Young Wine Show - presented annually by the South African National Wine Show Association (SANWSA) - gives winemakers the opportunity to showcase the best wines of their current vintage.
The eight participating wine regions are Robertson, Worcester, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Oranje-Vaal, Olifants River, Swartland and Klein Karoo.
The show dates back to 1833 when the Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society presented the first wine show in South Africa, and this, rather ironically, makes the SA Young Wine Show the oldest wine competition in South Africa.
Perdeberg’s CEO, Gerhard van der Watt said: “Achieving 88% medal recognition from 40 entries (compared to 72% for total Industry) confirms our wine team’s ability to make above average wines. Two National Class winners in red wines mean that we are not only king of Chenin (Regional Trophy and Gold at Nationals) but also great with red”.
