Claire Hu is an award-winning wine and food
journalist who lives between Joburg and Cape Town. A holder of the prestigious
Wine and Spirit Diploma, she has worked on British wine magazines including as
managing editor of Harpers Wine &
Spirit magazine, the leading publication for the international
drinks trade, and she has also held senior positions on Wine & Spiritand The Grocer.
She writes for publications including The Mail & Guardian, Business Day,
writes columns for wine.co.za
and eatout.co.za and also runs
her own editorial and wine consultancy business.
She has been a hack for too many years than
she cares to mention, working for national newspapers including The Guardian and London Evening Standard. She has visited
and written about many of the world’s wine regions including those in South
Africa, France, Germany, Spain, California, Austria and Australia. It was a
tough job, but someone had to do it!
She has international judging experience and is enjoying touring the Western
Cape, writing about the wines and characters behind them, as well as
unusual travel assignments such as cruising up the Chobe river. She can be
