RMB WineX Johannesburg 2008-Taste and shop at Southern Hemisphere's Largest Wine Show
08 October 2008  by Out Sorceress Marketing
RMB WineX - an "absolute must" on the Johannesburg wine calendar - takes place on Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 October. Now in its 9th year at the Sandton Convention Centre, South Africa's premier wine festival will present a new face to the country's wine lovers when the new look décor designed for 2008 is unveiled.
Panels totalling over 700 square metres and illustrating iconic wine-related images will surround the exhibition hall of this showcase event. For Gauteng wine enthusiasts RMB WineX brings under one roof the greatest number of established and new wineries in the Southern Hemisphere. This year, for the first time, multiple passes have been introduced at R200 for three nights. Using the Shop@Show retail facility - via Norman Goodfellows - buyers can arrange for their wine purchases to be delivered directly to their homes after the show.

Sponsored by Rand Merchant Bank and partnered by British Airways (operated by Comair Limited), The Weekender, Talk Radio 702 and Stephan Welz & Company (in association with Sotheby's), WineX offers wine lovers the opportunity to experience the many Cape wine routes over four days. With the help of the show's cultivar guide, ardent wine tasters can pursue "varietal routes" through the vast array of producers. For the less studious, WineX is simply the wine event of the year, where winemakers show off their prize offerings - from award-winning blockbusters to the lesser-known rare wines from boutique cellars and organic producers. The Best Wines on Show ballot (in association with Talk Radio 702) enables show visitors to vote for their favourite wines and stand a chance of winning fabulous prizes.

A full list of exhibitors for RMB WineX Johannesburg 2008 is available on www.winex.co.za. Mainstays such as Hamilton Russell, De Toren, Springfield, Ernie Els Wines, Meerlust, Mulderbosch, Cape Point Vineyards and Jordan, new generation wineries such as Quoin Rock, Eagle's Nest, Glenelly Cellars and Hermanuspietersfontein and newcomers Phd Wines and Peter Falke Wines are included in the line-up. Wine routes represented this year are Breedekloof, Constantia, Elgin, Elim, Hermanus, Franschhoek, Robertson, Stellenbosch and Wellington. For brandy lovers, Distell's Alchemy of Gold range of brandies will be available for tasting. With over 1 300 different wines and some of the Cape's finest aged brandies, RMB WineX is the one wine event in the year which ought not to be missed.

Fairview's hand-crafted cheeses, olives and olive oils from Kloovenburg, Morgenster, Willow Creek and Romesco will also be on offer for sampling and purchase. For the discerning consumer, imported and local wine accessories, Riedel glassware, Miele and Perfectly Cool coolers and River Woods wine racks will also be on view and for sale.

Corporate Cabs will be on hand to assist visitors who have been less-than-rigorous in complying with the WineX injunction to "spit, don't swallow." Corporate Cabs (www.corporatecabs.co.za) offers a 10% discount to patrons of the wine festival and will have vehicles on standby at the Sandton Convention Centre on each of the four nights. While the "spit, don't swallow" WineX message has meant that there have always been more spittoons in the room than exhibitors, this year the show has teamed up with ARA (The Industry Association for Responsible Alcohol Use) to emphasise the message of responsible tasting.
