| Nederburg begins 2010 on a winning note |
| 05 March 2010 by De Kock Communications |
|
| Nederburg has won its first gold medal of the year at the 2010 Berliner
Wein Trophy Awards for a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon in the range, as well
as a silver for a 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Both wines are sold in South
Africa as part of the Winemaster's Collection Reserve tier.

The OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin)-accredited competition is one of the leading international events of its kind staged in Germany, one of Nederburg?s key export markets.
The winery, which last year was judged South Africa's most successful producer on the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London, as well as the top performer on the 2009 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, has been steadily building its presence in many other countries too. This applies not only elsewhere in Europe as well as in Africa, but also more recently in the Americas and parts of Asia as winelovers show a growing appetite for the wines made by cellarmaster Razvan Macici and his colleagues Tariro Masayiti and Wilhelm Pienaar.
According to marketing manager Rudolph du Toit, last year's agreement signed with FIFA, entitling the winery to market a range of specially produced offerings for the 2010 FIFA World CupTM, is seeing the brand capture the imagination of a newer audience, football enthusiasts.
Already the three limited-edition wines produced to mark the football tournament - a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Sauvignon blanc and a dry Rosé - are selling briskly in some foreign markets, he says, with the majority of sales occurring off-shore. Currently, the most popular destination for the three specially labelled wines, featuring the FIFA logo, is Finland, followed by Brazil, the Netherlands, Canada, Japan and Germany.
"Our association with the games affords us a gateway to winelovers who until now may not have been exposed to our wines. Fortunately our award-winning credentials give further reason to try Nederburg, which already enjoys a reputation for outstanding quality and value, a graceful blend of fruit intensity and elegance, and compatibility with food.
"When wines from our popular tiers are awarded, we are particularly proud for it is further demonstration of Nederburg's attention to quality throughout the range," says Du Toit.
