IWSC: SA Wines judged locally in Paarl for 2nd consecutive year

The decision to taste locally in 2011 saw entries increase by up to a third, partly due to producers no longer having to ship to UK cellars.  The country was also awarded four product trophies including two for its generic grape varieties Chenin Blanc and Pinotage.
Tasting South African wines in Paarl provides producers with:
  • Vastly reduced shipping costs to the United Kingdom.
  • Local media buzz and support of key wine organizations.
  • Local judging talent and expertise.
  • Credibility of a 'truly global' IWSC award.

New for 2012
With the increasing quality of products entered into the Competition it was felt the marking system should reflect this reality. Currently a 'Best in Class' award is made to only one product per category which was felt could exclude products of equal merit.


From 2012 this will be replaced by an 'Outstanding' award given to ALL products recognised as such through their achievement of judging scores at the upper end of the Silver or Gold range.
