During the month of February, each week Wine.co.za will be focusing on a beautiful wedding venue in the winelands.

Our first spotlight sees Wine.co.za meeting with Ryno Bakkes from Lourensford to see firsthand the beauty of the Helderberg.
Lourensford Wine Estate is like something out of a fairytale. Boasting breath-taking views and a historical and magical elegance, it is the sort of setting that makes every photographer swoon.

Ryno Bakkes, the senior sales and marketing executive, took us through the estate's charm. “I work for the Aleit group but we are responsible for any hospitality functions on the estate from corporate events to birthdays and of course weddings. We came on board after the renovations in 2011 and we manage everything on behalf of Lourensford.

The reason Lourensford works so well as a venue, is that it really does have the capability to fit any wedding style or theme. And our popularity is really spreading through word of mouth and it has been since the renovations that Lourensford has taken off as a top wedding venue.

Lourensford has a very old historical and classical feel to it and Laurent, the wedding venue, has a modern, yet elegant feel to it and I think they pair perfectly together. It is perhaps one of the biggest spaces for weddings in the winelands being able to accommodate up to 400 people with a dance floor."

In terms of securing an event at Laurent, one must bear in mind that the months fill up fast, “December was extremely popular for weddings, indeed, anything from October to end of April is usually booked up well in advance. We have great weather here in Somerset West as there is not a lot of rain in the winter months so you can depend on Cape Town for a perfect wedding.”

As Ryno mentions, in 2011, Lourensford upgraded their venue(the old Orchard Hall) and re-branded it as Laurent. Its charm lies in its clean demeanor which allows the bridal couple a blank canvas on which to create their perfect wedding. Perhaps one of its main attractions is the veranda which overlooks the entire estate.

Expect to be given the royal treatment. Shake & Serve provide for all your beverage with their staff having all been trained at the Aleit academy – your glass will never be empty. All catering is done by Stir Food (www.stirfood.co.za) who are one of the most popular catering companies in the Cape Winelands, regularly catering for high-profile events and customizing menus for their clients needs. They will provide a wedding with food that will have all your guests enamored. If you need a coordinator, Megan Bridger, venue manager, is on hand to help you create your dream wedding.

For accommodation needs, Ryno states ‘we have a very close relationship with Erinvale which is next door to us. We get good rates for our wedding parties and of course, if more rooms are needed, I have a list of accommodation places nearby.’ For any Bride, it is always imperative to have the necessary space to get ready in and collapse in peace when the wedding is over.
