Lourensford is planting Proteas
We have started with Leucospermum Succession (pincushion) of which we will be planting 2.5 ha. Careful soil preparation has been done, as well as ridges, ridging (as proteas need well drained soils) and the ridges have been covered with weedmats in order to minimise the competition of weeds. Irrigation has been installed so every plant can have its own water supply. We have also started on the planting of Protea cynaroides, Madiba. Named after our State President Nelson Mandela. Still to be planted in the next month or two is Sharonette, Sylvia, Susara and Waratha whose plant material has been imported from Portugal.
