TOUR DESCRIPTION Day 1 - WINE
Our day in the Cape Winelands takes you through three of the Cape?s major wine-producing regions ? Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch Our first stop of the day is at L?Ormarins (aka Anthonij Rupert Wines) in Franschhoek one of the oldest wine estates in the Franschhoek wine valley, offers discerning wine lovers a multi-faceted experience comprising of a rewarding blend of natural scenic splendour, internationally acclaimed wines as well as the fascinating motor museum which depicts the more than 100 year evolution of the motor vehicle portrayed in the four halls of the museum and where a minimum of 80 vehicles (in perfect working order) out of a collection exceeding 200, can be viewed at any given time. At FMM, the history of the automobile is depicted from the humble Penny Farthing bicycle through to the Ferrari Enzo ? a joy to behold for any petrol head! Our next stop, La Motte in Franschhoek is home to some of South Africa?s finest wines, recognized internationally for their exceptional quality. In harmony with the production of wines, La Motte has also ventured into flower cultivation and the production of ethereal oils. The estate has a strong commitment to historic and cultural preservation, as well as the active socio-economic upliftment of its workers and their families. After tasting their wines, our lunch stop is at the Pierneef at La Motte Restaurant. Lunch for your own account. After lunch, we head off to Paarl's Backsberg Estate Cellars, one of the Top 100 Wineries in the World, as voted by Wine and Spirits Magazine. This is also the first wine farm in South Africa to attain carbon neutral status to counteract global warming. Our last stop is the phenomenal winemaking team of Gary and Kathy Jordan at Jordan Wine Estate in Stellenbosch for a tasting. Their philosophy: success begins in the vineyards. Exceptional wines are made possible by careful management of the farm's extensive natural assets through innovative canopy management and selecting varieties and clones specifically suited to the various soils and slopes. Check in at Labri Manor, an elegantly restored Victorian Manor in the heart of historic Stellenbosch for the evening. Located along a boulevard of plain trees, this luxurious guesthouse is centrally situated and is a convenient stroll from Stellenbosch's village centre, street cafes, museums and restaurants and the festive college life. Dinner and evening at your leisure (and for your own account).
Day 2 ? CAPE TOWN
You may be tempted to lie in, or linger over your breakfast, but soon we'll be heading off down the length of the peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point. Then on to the penguins at Boulders Beach, where you will have time to wander down the wooden walkways and see these dapper little birds from close quarters. We'll stop along the way for lunch (lunch for your own account).
From one famous site to another ? taking in the view from the top of Table Mountain (we opt for the easy option, up in the cable car!) , weather permitting. Next, it?s time for some retail therapy (time permitting) at the ever-popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, before we board a ferry for Robben Island. The view of the city and the mountain is truly magnificent and the tour of Robben Island, prison-home to former President Nelson Mandela for over 20 years, gives a not-to-be-missed insight into South Africa's struggle for democracy.
Check in at Cape Town guesthouse for the evening, The Charles in the colourful De Waterkant Village, a unique European influenced village of semi-detached quaint cottages and cobbled streets preserved from the 1760s and close to the Waterfront. This area is avant-garde, a cultural urban refuge highlighted by the abundance of restaurants, art galleries, gay clubs, salsa clubs, tapas bars and Parisian inspired cafes. Dinner and evening at your leisure (and for your own account). Tour ends. * Itinerary subject to change: every effort will be made to keep the itinerary as it appears here; however, the final itinerary may vary due to wine producer schedules, availability, and factors beyond our control.
