A time to write

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, anything at all, my apologies. I thought it wise to try and express my picture-driven mind through the lens of my camera for a bit. A “bit” which ended up turning into a year.

Lately, as my fingers have been itching to write and my notebook has been filling up with scribbles and doodles I started pondering whether to blog or not, and if I did, to what purpose?
  • I don’t really want my blog to be a personal journal. My day planner has taken to ruling my life, so I tremble to imagine what a journal would do to me. Besides, I’m not one of those people who have the intrinsic need to leave my mark. Though I did once assist in carving “Mart + Remmert” into a tree with a big heart around it, but I was only 12 then, and the world pretty much revolved around me.

  • In my search for the purpose of blogging I started thinking, why do people read blogs? I know I read them because they’re an excellent source of information and because sometimes I can’t sleep at three o’clock in the morning. I can source information, I do work for wine.co.za after all. They’re one of the biggest, if not the biggest, information sourcing portals in the wine industry. So, note to self, keep it informative.

  • Then again, who is going to read my informative blog? Obviously people with similar interests, issues or situations. That makes you a wine enthusiast looking for interesting events, hot newsflashes and wine-related tidbits. Kind of like a more intimate version of wine.co.za’s newsletters, on a MUCH smaller scale.
So based on these three points, what I’m offering you is a (semi-personal) journal on current wine issues, events and activities. Sounds about right. We’ll start with tomorrow night’s very formal, official launch of the Wellington independent wine district.

By the way, my sincerest apologies for not writing sooner.
