Winemaker
Obikwa Wines
I was involved with Obikwa from the beginning of 2002 when we launched the brand internationally. At that time I was responsible for the red wines. The brand was launched locally in 2009 & I became cellar manager for Obikwa in 2010.

I enjoy Obikwa because it is a fun, young brand without history, we are creating its story, it allows us to create the wines, we don't have to follow a "recipe" or style.

I enjoy Obikwa because it is a fun, young brand without history, we are creating its story, it allows us to create the wines, we don't have to follow a "recipe" or style. We can make the wines we want to. I kind of drifted into winemaking at university, I started studying a normal BSc but soon decided I needed a bit of direction & by that stage I was already interested in wine - as a consumer, so winemaking seemed like a logical move.

I love the challenge of winemaking, no two days are the same & you never know what's going to happen on any given day. It also allows you to express yourself creatively but you also need to the analytical side of your brain working otherwise things can go horribly wrong.

I enjoy outdoor activities when I'm relaxing,  4x4ing, camping, adventure motorcycling, water-skiing, crayfishing or just enjoying a glass of Obikwa around a braai fire with friends.
