Catea is a cellar rat, marketing manager by day and WSET student by night.

Her aim is to complete her Master of Wine over the next few years. She is also planning to make her own wine and believes that there is so much more to wine than just the making and drinking of it. The industry is such a fine tapestry of different components - it really speaks to her creative side.

Catea has no formal training as a winemaker - she studied BA International Studies for a couple of years - and instead of seeing it as an obstacle, she makes it work. She chose winemakers - mentors, if you like - she admires them and tries to do a harvest with them. It is a kind of thrown-into-the-deep-end tactic and can be very exhausting at times, but it works for her. She has had the opportunity to work with some incredible people over the course of a few years - Emul Ross, Niels Verburg and Johann Fourie have all taught her so much.

When not grafting away at her career, Catea spends time with her loved ones in Hermanus and swims in the (icy) ocean and runs whenever she has the time.

Catea was runner up for the 2016 Veritas Young Wine Writer Award. See her winning article HERE

She is currently working at Newton Johnson Vineyards as Marketing Manager.
