Fortunate is the candidate wine steward for Grootbos Private Nature Reserve in the 2017 Cape Legends & Artisan Spirits Inter Hotel Challenge.
Originally hired as a gate porter, Fortunate’s charming personality was quickly spotted resulting in her becoming a waitress when an opening presented itself. Being a multi-talented woman, when she was not working as a waitress at Grootbos by night, she was also a cook at a local restaurant by day. Seeking new challenges and opportunities to learn when a bar position made itself available at Grootbos in 2016, she turned her attention to becoming a bar lady full time.
Regardless of the fact that her duties do not pertain to wine exclusively, she always wants to know and experience more whether it be attending local tastings, reading various wine related sources or just simply just asking various questions during service as bottles are sold.
Fortunate views the Cape Legends Interhotel Challenge as the next positive learning opportunity in her career. She is excited about the opportunities that may present themselves given her desire to one day return home to Zimbabwe and use her talents and skills towards the overall contribution to the Zimbabwean wine industry.
