Deon Boshoff

After completing his diploma in Cellar Technology at Elsenburg Agricultural College, Boshoff started his career as assistant winemaker at the Zonnebloem Cellar in 2002 and quickly worked his way up to being in charge of the white wine team.

After completing his diploma in Cellar Technology at Elsenburg Agricultural College, Boshoff started his career as assistant winemaker at the Zonnebloem Cellar in 2002 and quickly worked his way up to being in charge of the white wine team. He has palmed in several awards for his wines including a Veritas Double Gold for the 2007 Zonnebloem Sauvignon Blanc Ltd. Edition and the Old Mutual Trophy for the Best White Wine Overall and Best Semillon for his 2007 vintage.

Like his wines, Deon has grown and matured into his position as Cellar Master, overseeing the entire red and wine wine production at the Zonnebloem Cellar. His responsibilities include commanding the day to day operations of the cellar and producing 120 million litres of wine per year for Zonnebloem and other Distell wines, along with managing more than 50 staff members.

The harvest season is my favourite time of the year and I am looking forward to the challenges of this coming season. My aim for Zonnebloem wines is to preserve the fruit flavours of the grapes throughout the winemaking process and to make sure the wines reflect these flavours, he said.

In his leisure time, Boshoff is an avid cricket player, but due to his workload during the harvest time he only plays part of the season. He also enjoys spending quality time with his daughter.

Personal Perspective
Wine is for one's pleasure therefore I want to make wines that suit every palate and can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere and I want to ensure satisfaction every time you open a bottle of Zonnebloem.
