Recent groundbreaking studies which garnered international attention have revealed that chocolate and wine offer great health benefits. Good news for those wishing to indulge this winter!
The Boschendal winemaking team has developed a tasting experience which pairs award-winning wine and hand-crafted chocolate. This modern take on wine is hosted in the oldest building on the recently renovated Boschendal Estate, one of the most iconic estates in the Cape winelands.

Visitors to Boschendal can savour exceptional wines as well as sample limited releases only available on the estate in the course of a chocolate gourmet encounter. Pairings include the Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay, recently awarded Silver at this year’s Chardonnay Du Monde competition, with white lime and apricot; zesty hints of lime lift fresh green notes from the 1685 Sauvignon Blanc (Double Gold winner at the International Wine and Spirits Awards 2015) while the Boschendal 1685 Shiraz pairing with Cape Glühwein Chocolate reveals white pepper wine notes enhanced by cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.

“Modern wine-drinkers have distinct tastes and are often more open to experimentation in wine, yet insist on quality,” says Greg Castle, Marketing Director at DGB (owners of Boschendal Wine), “Boschendal consistently innovates to surprise wine lovers the world over with award-winning wines and interesting tasting experiences.”

Created to complement the exceptional quality of Boschendal wine, the artisanal chocolates are hand-crafted in Knysna using only the finest ingredients. Specially selected cocoa beans produced in Africa have a quality acknowledged the world over. The 33 – 35% cocoa butter content competes comfortably with other famous imported chocolates and we have a high ratio of Full Cream Milk Solids which create a creamy texture.

This means that the creamy chocolates melt in the mouth sooner than any other chocolate, reaching maximum intensity in the quickest possible time. These silky smooth chocolates are then rounded off with mellow but full flavoured vanilla from Madagascar.

Researchers at the University of Maine, University of South Australia and Luxembourg Institute of Health revealed that eating chocolate at least once a week results in better performance on multiple cognitive tasks.

What better way to beat the winter blues than to indulge in a guided pairing of artisanal hand-crafted chocolate and award-winning wine at one of the oldest and most exclusive wine farms in South Africa, founded in 1685. Well regarded around the world for its premium wine, Boschendal is fast establishing itself as a cherished foodie destination and source of wholesome produce.

Tempt your palate, boost your health and beat the winter blues this season with this exclusive chocolate and wine tasting experience at Boschendal, the recently reinvented winelands haven. Book this gourmet experience with award-winning wine and finest chocolate at R75.00 per person. Tours take place from 10h00 - 16h30 daily, booking is essential.
