Enjoy scrumptious Portuguese dishes and delicious export wines at ReedValley this Heritage Day.

ReedValley is the latest addition to the Garden Route's wine route and offers a range of exclusive export wines as well as authentic Portuguese cuisine. The farm celebrates the rich history of Mossel Bay, originally named Aguada de São Bras (watering place of Saint Blaize) by the great explorer Bartolomeu Dias after he set foot in Africa on 3 February 1488. Dias, who left Lisbon in August 1487 with two caravels of 100 tonnes each as well as a bigger store ship, was determined to find a sea route to India via the southern tip of Africa. The town was later renamed to "Mossel Bay” by the Dutch but for years the Portuguese used São Bras to take on fresh water and meat.

Similar to the way that the Portuguese seafarers brought the best that the world had to offer to the most southern tip of Africa, ReedValley also sources only the best vine fruit from the most suitable terroirs, and it’s this fine product that we offer guests at our venue.

South African cuisine has been greatly influenced by the Portuguese. This influence is particularly visible in the wide variety of spices used in our cooking; spices that we will use to prepare our famous prego rolls this Heritage Day. On the braai, we will also have fresh sardines (if available), that we will be serving with crusty ciabatta, olive oil and rocket, as well as our Portuguese fire salad (vegetables roasted directly on the coals).

Mom and dad can enjoy a glass of export wine or authentic Portuguese Super Bock beer while the little ones play on our jungle gym and make friends with the animals in our petting zoo.
