Winemaker’s wife cooks up a feel-good feast of seasonal delights ...

Gastronauts and wine aficionados can sharpen their senses for an exclusive lunch indulgence in the Vat Cellar at Goede Hoop Estate, when the first Bottelary Hills ‘Pop Up’ Winemakers Lunch for 2014 serves up a feel-good, family feast on Sunday, 23 February.

Goede Hoop is one of the acclaimed terroir–driven producers along the Bottelary Hills strip – a ‘sub-route of the Stellenbosch American Express® Wine Routes and home to some of the oldest wine farms in the country, whilst most of them have been family-owned for many generations. On this special day, third generation owner Pieter Bestbier and winemaker

Albert Ahrens will usher fellow winemakers and visitors into the old Vat Cellar on the farm, where Albert’s wife, Heidi, will serve some of her favourite family recipes.

Nestled deep in the valley, known as the Bottelary Kloof, Goede Hoop is steeped in history and the beautiful farm house dates back to 1880. It is one of those ‘hidden’ wine gems where one feels immediately at home and where one glass of wine turns info a lazy, soul-quenching afternoon of genuine hospitality and great company.

This Bottelary Hills ‘Pop Up’ Winemakers Lunch at Goede Hoop guarantees to open up a whole new world to both discerning wine drinkers and those who appreciate Cape heritage. Joining Pieter, Albert and Heidi at the long table will be fellow Bottelary Hills estates – Beyerskloof, Hartenberg, Kaapzicht and Mooiplaas – for like-minded guests to immerse themselves in their passions and renowned terroir tipples.

These Bottelary Hills Winemakers Lunches are extremely popular due to their intimate, unpretentious nature and there are only 48 seats available in the Vat Cellar at Goede Hoop – so make sure you book your spot now. Your day out in the jovial company of the wine folk of the Bottelary Hills costs R275 per person which includes a wine tasting, a four course meal, and a glass of wine per course.

The tasting is from 12h30 until 13h00, followed by lunch. To book your seats contact Tel: (021) 886 8275 or send an email to marketing@wineroute.co.za.

Goede Hoop is situated on the Fischer’s Road, off the M23 Bottelary Road – between Kuils River and Stellenbosch.
