To accommodate even more riders at one of South Africa’s largest MTB events, the organisers have added a brand new 50km route to the south-eastern part of this town. This new route will be an extension of the popular 30km route and although it is only 8km longer than the 42km, it is a much easier route! Riders should not be fooled by the distances.
The event, which is renowned for its challenging and picturesque wineland routes, will be held in association with the Simonsberg Conservancy and will boast six scenic mountain bike routes to cater for all levels of riding. This year riders can also choose to enter the 30km route as a fundraiser for a charity.

• 15km funride for children & novices.
• 30km funride for beginner riders
• 50km funride for intermediate riders
• 42km challenge for intermediate, but fitter riders
• 60km challenge for advanced riders
• 75km invitation race for top riders

Hop in the saddle and pedal the 30 km in aid of Die Burger-Kersfonds! This year, presenters from Radio Tygerberg, KFM and kykNET’s Dagbreek are working together to fill up Die Burger’s money box. You can join them and not only have loads of fun, but also make a real difference. Die Burger is turning 99 this year, and the MTB Challenge is the first occasion where they will celebrate this big milestone.
The challenge for each team is to collect R99 000 (representing the 99 years) between them. You can help to reach this goal by joining a special group inthe 30 km route option or by just making a donation. Funds will be used for maintenance of Die Burger-Strandhuis in Muizenberg and for donations to three charity organisations – the ACVV, Badisa and Mfesane.
Meurant Botha of Dirtopia, who has been designing and maintaining mountain bike trails for over twelve years, says that the routes will pass through more than 40 farms in the area, giving riders the opportunity to tackle some of the best and most beautiful trails in the country.
At the finish line there will be kiddies entertainment, food & drink, medals to all finishers, and make sure you stay for prizegiving & the lucky draw where a bike can be won.
