Stellenbosch Pinotage pioneer Simonsig is celebrating International Pinotage Day on Saturday 8 October with two tailor-made events created to honour South Africa’s most famous indigenous red grape variety.
From 10:00, Simonsig will be open for an all-day event where music, food and a selection of Pinotage wines and cocktails can be enjoyed on the spacious lawns looking onto the spectacular Simonsberg mountain. Jack and Black will be performing their unique brand of cover-rock music. Cuvée, Simonsig’s award-winning restaurant, has a full kitchen running for the day dishing out burgers, boerewors, cheese platters and honest-to-goodness vetkoek.

Visitors can choose between a wide range of wines based on Pinotage. The Simonsig Pinotage and prized Redhill Pinotage are at top spot, and those who wish to know more about this grape variety can attend a tasting done by Simonsig Pinotage Maestro Debbie Thompson.

Those seeking cooler Pinotage refreshment can slake their thirst with the Simonsig Brut Rosé Kaapse Vonkel as well as the Estate’s unique blend of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc.

Cuvée’s innovative chef will also be offering a signature Pinotage cocktail specially developed for International Pinotage Day.

Entry to Pinotage Day at Simonsig is free.

On the evening of 8 October, Cuvée and Pinotage take centre stage with winemaker Debbie Thompson joining forces with Chef Carolize Coetzee in creating a four-course meal, each course paired with a different Pinotage wine. Both Debbie and Carolize will be on hand to talk about the wines and the food respectively, and this is set to be an informative as well as delicious evening.

Booking for this dinner is a must. The cost is R450 per person including wine.
