about us »
Background
An historic family legacy that boasts nine generations of passionate winemakering entirely focused on delighting their patrons by offering exceptional wines.
DeWaal's mature vineyards offer grapes that produce deep, rich wines fondly remembered for their consistent quality and enjoyment.
DeWaal's value-for-money wines promotes everyday enjoyment that far exceeds other cellars' concept of quality wine.
More than two centuries ago, this historic 1791 Cape Dutch Homestead was the last outpost (literal translation of the farm's name) on the road between Cape Town and Stellenbosch.
Uiterwyk has been a De Waal family concern since 1864. Chris, Pieter and Daniel de Waal are the ninth generation of the family involved in winemaking in South Africa. The wines combine Old World finesse and New World abundant fruit.
In 1998, this modest family caused quite a stir by winning Wine Magazine's Pinotage Champion award (best out of 47).In 2009
Decanter Magazine
rated Top of the Hill 2003 as "one of South Africas 10 best wines"
Daniel de Waals innovative Cape Blend, using Pinotage as its crucial component, is the first Cape Blend in South Africa. Its complexity and intense fruit character recently received 4½ stars in the John Platter Wine Guide 2007.
DeWaals wines are limited release only. Available at specialist wine shops, gourmet restaurants, or from the farm itself.
