The Concours Mondial Bruxelles took place on 23,24 and 25 April in Palermo, Sicily. France came out, once again, as the absolute winner with 606 medals (14 of which Great Gold Medals) while Spain took second place with 378 medals (17 Great Gold).
This year, 6964 samples of wines and spirits were submitted to the professional jury. Of them, 2042 were awarded.

The Engelbrecht Els 2007 and Spier Private Collection Chenin Blanc 2008 were the only two South African wines that received a Great Gold Medal at the competition. Unfortunately no Trophies were awarded to any South African wine.
