The slow approach to winter...
What a wonderful town we find ourselves in! Every season has its own set of colours. Most places go dry either during summer, or during winter. But not in Stellenbosch… Here, there are always lush greens everywhere you look… whether due to the oak trees and vineyards in the summer, or grass and ground cover in the winter.

In a Stellenbosch summer colourful flowers, birds and aromas fill our lives with bubbly excitement. There is a constant buzz in the air, as grapes and tourists pour in. Everyone wants to be outside, go places and be festive. It is like a party that never seems to end.

In a Stellenbosch winter, rain starts to patter on our roofs and everything starts to slow down. Colours change from green to deep reds, bright oranges and earthy browns. Jackets are brought out of the cupboards, along with leather boots. Even the ground is snuggled under a blanket of leaves. Fires and red wine is the norm of the day. We eat oxtail with Keystone 2005, Coq aux Vin with Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 and Osso Bucco with Merlot 2011. We stay indoors, while our wine “sleeps” in the cellar and the world sparkles around us. This is why all of us in Stellenbosch loves the slow approach of winter. Because our world slowly turns into a fairy tale.
