| Raka Wines: A Petit Grand Finale! |
| 27 March 2012 by Raka Wines |
| The last day of a very compact, intense harvest dawned at Raka a full 12 days earlier than usual.
Harvest started with Sauvignon Blanc on 2nd February, and after 7 weeks of work, sweat and (almost) tears, it ended with the final block- Petit Verdot- which came into the cellar at 24.8 balling on 20/03/2012. Up to now, the Mourvedre always had the honour to be harvested on the final day!
“We have never had a shorter, more trouble free harvest before”, is the opinion of Pieter Dreyer, vineyard manager at Raka while winemaker Josef Dreyer is, as always, reluctant to comment on the quality of the wine before at least 3 months after harvest, but is willing to say that the grapes were healthy and of very good quality and the flavours excellent! The only deduction to be made from that, is that the wine will be excellent too.
