De Krans Port and chocolate, perfect partners
14 June 2012  by De Krans Wine Cellar
De Krans Wine Cellar, situated in the picturesque town of Calitzdorp along the world famous Route 62, has, over the years, established itself as one of South Africa's leading port producers. The ports produced range from the traditional to modern, catering for all palates throughout the year.
Included in their line-up is the extremely popular and award-winning De Krans Cape Ruby Port, which is best, described as a medium–bodied port, youthful with fruity, spicy flavours and a balanced sweetness. Receiving an outstanding 88 points by highly acclaimed wine journalist Neal Martin in last year’s Wine Advocate Ratings, it also boasts a 4-star rating in the 2012 Platters South African Wine Guide.

An excellent port to enjoy now winemaker Boets Nel recommends enjoying it on its own, at room temperature, during the cold and wet months. For an ‘out of the box’ pairing marinate fresh figs in some De Krans Cape Ruby Port for about a week. Once thoroughly soaked enjoy the Port drenched figs with a combination of dark and milk Belgian chocolate for an experience of a perfect partnership.

The De Krans Cape Ruby Port is available at most retail outlets nationwide for approximately R59 per bottle.

For more information contact the cellar at 044 213 3314 or email dekrans@mweb.co.za. De Krans wines are distributed nationally by Wine Worx (tel. 021 886 9165).
