The decision to taste South African wines on their home turf in 2011 saw entries increase by nearly 30% resulting in a record-breaking 641 medals for the country. From the medals won, South Africa scooped 30 'gold best in class' and 15 'golds' in the prestigious competition's Southern Hemisphere results.
Tasting South African wines in Paarl provides producers with:
- Vastly reduced shipping costs to the United Kingdom.
- Local media buzz and support of key wine organizations.
- Local judging talent and expertise.
- Credibility of a 'truly global' IWSC award.
The International Wine and Spirit Competition is considered to be the oldest and most respected competition of its kind in the world, and the benefits of winning an award are well documented.
