Visitors have increased every year at The Wine Show. 2013
saw over 9,000 wine lovers descend into the Sandton Convention Centre over just
3 days. If you were to fly that many wine buyers down to the Winelands you’d
need at least 21 747 jumbo jets!
The value of wine sales has grown every year since the event
pioneered the concept of selling to the public at shows in 2006. The value
reported by exhibitors, who keep all their sales revenue via the direct method,
in 2013 was R3,000,000. This figure is unadulterated by sales revenues for
peripheral products and olives.
Stands are strictly limited within the show to allow each exhibitor a more personal interaction with visitors. “We limit the number of stands to an optimum number so that the producers can enjoy a more personal and meaningful interaction with visitors. By doing this we ensure each producer has great potential for selling their wines” says Vanessa Adendoff, Group Sales Manager at The Wine Show. With the average per head visitor spend passing R1900 each, she has a point.
John Woodward, show director, adds “The proposition is very simple. We build a show environment packed full
of educational and fun wine content. From Theatres to Champions Lounges. We
leverage the best media in the country like Highveld radio and DStv. We then fill
it full of thousands of wine buyers with money in their pockets and invite wine
producers to come and shoot fish in a barrel. If you’re not joining in, you’re
really over complicating things”.
Organised and promoted by SA’s leading wine-media provider
TWS Media, The Wine Show opens at the Sandton Convention Centre May 8th
to 10th before moving to Durban’s Suncoast June 5th-7th
and then finishing in PE at The Boardwalk July 31st-2nd
August.
