Cederberg Cellar
Bushmans Kloof has introduced a tour of Cederberg Cellar to its repertoire of diverse excursions and homegrown experiences on offer to guests.

Known as South Africa’s ‘highest winery’, Cederberg Private Cellar is located within the pristine environs of the Cederberg Wilderness Area where owner and winemaker David Nieuwoudt sculpts dramatic red and white wines at an altitude of more than 1000m above sea level.

The Cederberg Private Cellar excursion is offered exclusively to Bushmans Kloof guests, taking them into the heart of the breathtaking Cederberg Mountains in a comfortable Toyota Fortuner 4x4. The rugged landscape with its spectacular rock formations may be admired during the two hour drive during which one of Bushmans Kloof’s knowledgeable guides will regale guests with fascinating anecdotes and perspectives of the area.

Guests will be taken on a private tour of the winery, followed by a tasting of wines that are renowned for showing exceptional purity of fruit due to the cool continental climate, diverse soil types, unpolluted air and crystal clear waters of the region.

At a cost of R1500 per vehicle/maximum of 4 passengers, this sensory local experience includes a delicious picnic lunch prepared by Executive Chef Floris Smith and his team. The wine excursion perfectly complements the inspired culinary experience served at the Bushmans Kloof Lodge. Showcasing the fresh organic produce of the region, Chef Floris Smith is adept at creating dishes that bring out the flavour of the meticulously selected wines on the wine list, to offer visitors a South African food and wine journey of note during their stay. Wines from the Cederberg Private Cellar are well represented on the award-winning Bushmans Kloof wine list.

Other homegrown experiences offered to guests at Bushmans Kloof include day-trips to nearby towns such as Wupperthal, a small and picturesque Moravian Mission Village 75km from Clanwillian, where Rooibos farming and the veldskoene (leather shoe) factory are popular attractions. A visit to the Rooibos Tea Factory in Clanwilliam, or a guided Rooibos safari offered by the Elandsberg Rooibos Tea Estate are also on offer to guests wanting to explore the region.
