The immense popularity of the coffee-style
Barista Pinotage, launched in 2009 by Vinimark The Wine Company in conjunction
with Bertus ‘Starbucks’ Fourie, has led to the
extension of the Barista brand to include a delightful summer counterpart:
Barista Chardonnay 2013.
Barista Chardonnay 2013
Following in the footsteps of the Barista Pinotage, the Barista Chardonnay reveals captivating aromas and flavours, approachability, exceptional smoothness and seamless integration of wood and fruit. And in distinctive Barista style, the packaging exhibits minimalist sophistication and style, topped with its signature standout screw cap design, and is exceptionally food friendly and well priced.
The grapes for this lightly-wooded Chardonnay came from Elgin. The wine was partially fermented and matured in mostly second-fill oak barrels. One third of the wine was fermented in stainless steel and blended in to ensure freshness and to retain the zippy citrusy flavour so typical of chardonnay.
Tasting notes: A splash of citrus and ripe peach aromas greet you followed by hints of gooseberries and tangy tangerine with a subtle vanilla oak finish.
Food pairing: Drink on its own or enjoy with a smoked chicken salad; or grilled kingklip with parmesan pesto, mashed potato and lemon butter cream.
Retail price: Barista Chardonnay 2013 is widely available nationally at leading liquor retailers and grocers for approximately R70 per bottle.
Barista Pinotage 2013
The Barista Pinotage 2013 manifests a burst
of intense, rich coffee and chocolate aromas with ripe nuances of mulberry,
plum and Maraschino cherries. All the aromas follow through onto the palate and
are enhanced by vanilla and butterscotch. The wine has ripe luscious tannins
and is ready to be enjoyed now. It
is widely available nationally at leading liquor retailers and grocers at
approximately R70 per bottle.
“The simplicity of the Barista concept, the
approachability of the coffee-style Barista Pinotage, and the minimalist style
of the Barista packaging proved to be very successful in demystifying wine
while remaining a sophisticated offering. With this premium contemporary brand
going from strength to strength, reaching out beyond the typical wine consumer,
the decision was made to broaden Barista’s appeal and introduce a complementary
summer offering: Barista Chardonnay 2013,” commented Ginette de Fleuriot of
Vinimark The Wine Company. The origin of the Barista brand
The
maiden 2009 coffee-style Barista Pinotage was developed and launched
into the market by Vinimark The Wine Company, SA’s largest independent
wine wholesaler, together with Bertus Fourie, known as ‘Starbucks’, due
to his success in pioneering and refining the popular coffee-style
pinotage wines in South Africa, using a specific yeast strain, specific
toasting, specific oak type and of course, pinotage grapes. The name
Barista (which originates from Italian and means one who is skilled in
the preparation of coffee) paid homage to the exquisite coffee flavours
of the pinotage. The unique screw cap’s design cues were taken from
authentic Italian coffee bars’ black and white tiled floors.
