Nine gourmet food items were
tasted with sixteen wines from Longridge Estate, Lyngrove, Ken Forrester Wines
and Avontuur Estate under the expert tutelage of vivacious culinary consultant
Marilou Marais Ferreira and prepared by resident chef Bruce von Pressentin and
his team.
Wines like the Ken Forrester
Bushvine Chenin Blanc, the Longridge Chardonnay, the Lyngrove Chenin Blanc and
the Avontuur Pinot Noir/Chardonnay Sparkling wine were winners with more than
one of the dishes where the rich, buttery mushroom tart really only paired well
with a full-bodied Shiraz like the Avontuur Dominion Royale. Another perfect match was the lamb kebab with
rosemary and garlic with the Longridge flagship red blend Ekliptika, whilst the
exquisitely presented Red Salad worked well with the Lyngrove Sauvignon Blanc
2014, which is fresh and crisp.
“Although even the experts
couldn’t agree on every pairing, we did reach consensus eventually and now it’s
up to the guests on the evening to make up their own minds,” says organisor
Björn van Oort of CVO Marketing.
Thirteen iconic Stellenbosch wineries
will get together to show off a maximum of four wines each at this inaugural pop-up
event, which will rotate amongst wineries annually.
Tickets are R250 each, includes a branded wine glass and a voucher booklet to the value of R120 for the purchase of the canapés on offer.
Additional vouchers will be available
during the event for those who want to taste more of the selection of
mouth-watering dishes. Wine tasting is
free and event-visitors will be able to purchase all the showcased wines on the
evening at special prices.
Wineries participating are Avontuur Estate, Beau Belle, Bilton Wines , Blaauwklippen Vineyards , Dornier Wines, Ken Forrester Wines, Lithos Wines, Longridge Wine Estate, Lyngrove, Post House Vineyards, Somerbosch Wines, Waterkloof & Yonder Hill.
