PERFORMERS' BIOGRAPHIES

Pete Mitchell aka The Scotsman aka (Pietman Geldenhuys) Die Skot
Peter Mitchell created quite a stir and impressed the nation with his soulful rendition of Flower of Scotland on Kyknet’s Toks ‘n Tjops. Watch on YouTube.

But there is so much more to Peter Mitchell. He is a singer / comedian / songwriter / actor / impersonator / husband / private chef / producer.

So pay attention. Visiting us all the way from Scotland is Peter Mitchell. Mitchell tells hilarious stories of his worldwide travels, ending in South Africa, and is a world class comedian. Add on to that the fact that he has a voice somewhere between Chris De Burgh and Nana Mouskouri and that he can write songs on the spot, with words and music taken from the audience before their very eyes, is indeed a mouthful. This act is something to behold, an act filled with music, comedy, impersonations, surprises and clever tricks.

Simon Orange
Simon Orange is the singer and keyboard player for Cape Town legends The Blues Broers. He's also worked as a live and studio session musician with so many South African artists, the list is too long to mention. His piano-playing is influenced by Ray Charles and Nina Simone, Luna Paige

Luna Paige
Luna Paige recorded her first songs in 1999. Since then she has released 4 English albums and 1 Afrikaans live CD and DVD. Her work has been included in many compilation albums throughout the years and has been used in South African TV series and programs such as “Going Nowhere Slowly” and “Ella Blue”. She has performed backing vocals on albums by Jack Hammer, Theuns Jordaan and Peter Mitchell and has recorded duets with other songwriters such as Jak de Priester, Gerald Clark and Peter Mitchell.

Luna is a well-respected and familiar artist at music theatres and festivals across South Africa. She has toured to and performed in the Netherlands in 2013 and 2014 and has been invited to perform in Nashville in 2016. She has shared the stage with artists like Lesley Rae Dowling, Laurinda Hofmeyr, Nicole Holm, Finley Quaye, Toni Wille (Pussycats), K’s Choice, Nick Turner, Peter Mitchell and Piet Botha. She is part of the Lovemore project with Gerald Clark, which has gained tremendous momentum and an ever-growing fan base. She introduced her first Luna Paige production, “Die Ander Konsert” at the Woordfees, which will also be showing at KKNK 2015.

Nick Turner
Nick Turner became known to music lovers as one of the front men of the popular SA band, Sons of Trout (in the 90’s). Soon after Nick and singer-songwriter and violinist Mike Renny started the African influenced duo Mikanic. They travelled to, lived and performed in New York for many years, where they had a loyal following and wonderful opportunities to perform at world music festivals across the globe. Nick returned to South Africa and became involved with the Solms Delta project where he teaches and collaborates with local artists. He is currently busy with his first solo album and composed his first Afrikaans songs for “Die Ander Konsert” - a collaborative project with 7 other artists (Woordfees & KKNK, 2015). 2014 saw him perform at Oppikoppi and Rocking the Daisies - a sign that his solo career is already well on its way and his music in serious demand!

Gerald Clark
Gerald Clark started his career as the front man of the very popular blues band Delta Blue. After the dismantling of the band, Clark flied solo and has only gone from strength to strength. He has released numerous English albums as well as one special Afrikaans album (Sweepslag) which was nominated for a SAMA award. He is a frequent main stage headliner at popular blues festivals such as the Table Mountain Blues Summit and the Big Blues Festival. He is also a familiar face at the Blues sessions at Mercury, De Vette Mossel during Woordfees and all other blues-orientated events. He has recently collaborated with songstress Luna Paige in the Lovemore Show, which has gained a lot of publicity and became quite a hit amongst South African music lovers and at festivals.

Albert Frost
Albert Frost is a familiar and respected feature of the South African blues rock music scene. For the past 20 years, the energetic performances of this accomplished guitarist have dazzled audiences as he deftly alternates between rhythm and lead, while showcasing acoustic and electric guitars. His first love is blues, stemming from the influence of his long relationship with the Blues Broers with whom he has performed since 1994 - 20 years. He has recorded with Arno Carstens, Koos Kombuis, Chris Chameleon, Blues Broers and many others. He has performed with every major artist in South Africa, and with international artists like Ali Faka Toure and Finley Quaye. He has toured with Simple Minds and Rem, and supported the Rolling Stones. “Frost is one of the most versatile and talented guitarists in South Africa. Seeing him wield his myriad axes is a lesson in what is possible with a guitar” (Murray Walker, What’s On, July 2013).

The Backing Band: Schalk Joubert and Kevin Gibson
Schalk Joubert is an award-winning South African producer, composer and bass player. He has worked with the best of the best and has been invited by local and international artists to travel to and perform with them at festivals and theatres across the globe. Kevin Gibson has been slamming the drums for decades and is by far one of SA’s best session drummers. He studied and lived in America where he performed with artists such as country star Jackson Browne. He has been across the world to perform at jazz festivals with fellow jazz musicians from SA and abroad. He has recorded with many South African artists and continues to do so.
