During Earth Hour 2014, hundreds of
millions of people in 162 countries and 7 000 cities took part. Cape Town ended
up being voted the overall winner of the Cities Challenge for their pioneering action to combat
climate change. This year, Earth Hour takes place on 28 March, and people are
once again encouraged to switch off lights for one hour to show their
commitment towards the planet. Lomond Wines is proud to take part in this
initiative.
Situated in the Uilenkraal River
valley in the Gansbaai area, Lomond is one of only a few wine farms in the Cape
Agulhas region. The essence of Lomond is sustainability and conservation, which
ties in with the values of Earth Hour and the World Wildlife Federation.
Therefore, the farm functions within the bigger picture of environmental
conservation and community responsibility, investing in practices that support
long-term sustainability.
The Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc is one
of the results of Lomond’s
environmentally minded farming practice. Named after the Pincushion Protea (Leucospermum
patersonii), this single vineyard wine is characterised by abundant
tropical fruit flavours. Hints of citrus complement the elegant palate with a
fresh acidity, which balances out the intense fruit flavours. Over time, it has
become one of the estate’s
firm favourites, highlighting the cool climate in which the grapes grow.
The paper lantern is symbolic of the
beautiful Pincushions growing on Lomond. It will provide you with some light
during Earth Hour, while you enjoy this beautiful bottle of wine.
The Earth Hour campaign “I Will If You Will”
is encouraged in all our farming practices. How will you
use this hour to make a difference for our planet?
