How to survive Wacky Wine 2015

In its 12th year, Robertson's top wine festival (and the biggest attended wine festival in SA), Wacky Wine is a memorable experience that brings young and old together for a long weekend of activities around wine and food.

1) The most obvious, have a designated driver. There is a zero tolerance policy and police cars will be patrolling. Wineries are making the effort to make sure they restrict the service to overtly drunken people.

2) Have a super big breakfast. You don’t want to be that person who fades by 11am and ends up passed out over a barrel. Have a look at the breakfast options at Cork and Crumbs in Montagu or try Rosendal in Robertson.

3) Check the weather before you go. I, as a rule, take wellington boots with me because June can bring showers and it's miserably walking and standing all day and having soggy feet. Alternatively, you don't want to be in warm clothing under full sun either - best to be prepared.

4) Do some research into the wineries and what they have on offer and make a note of those that get super busy. Bon Courage is always packed as is Springfield...in fact everywhere gets busy but if you know, for example, that you adore Chardonnay then make a plan to go straight to the farms that do the best.

5) If you're having a mid-day slump, grab a cup of coffee from Strictly Coffee to jumpstart your engine.

6) Bring cash with you for all the foodie offerings and the trinkets that you will inevitably collect.

7) Make sure you drink a lot of water throughout the day. Dehydration is horrid and you'll be foul to be around. Drink a bottle of water between each winery.

8) Go with friends. Wacky Wine is such a fun festival for a big group of people because it caters for everyone's wine tastes.
