La Motte
Made from grapes originating from six different winegrowing regions in the Western Cape, the 2015 vintage of La Motte’s Sauvignon Blanc beautifully combines the best of prime Sauvignon Blanc-growing areas for a complex, yet vibrant edition of the popular La Motte Sauvignon Blanc.
All contributing their unique profiles, grapes used in the 2015 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc originate from vineyards in Franschhoek (30%), Stellenbosch (20%), Elgin (15%), Walker Bay (15%), Villiersdorp (17%) and Durbanville (3%).

“2015 was an exceptional vintage in South Africa and using diverse terroir components in one blend resulted in a multifaceted wine – even when made in an accessible style”, says La Motte Cellar Master Edmund Terblanche.

The richness of gooseberry on the nose is balanced by crisp green apple and a hint of lime. With a lovely follow-through, the well-rounded palate offers more body than in averages vintages, but without compromising the refreshing quality of the wine.

Each of the Sauvignon Blanc vineyards used in this blend, grows in its own microclimate. All the vineyards are trellised and managed to maintain an optimum balance between leaf coverage and yield. Grapes were harvested at between 17 and 23 Balling, capturing both natural acidity and riper flavours. The winemaking process was reductive with cold fermentation at 14 ˚C. To enhance complexity, the wine was left on the lees for three months after fermentation and 10% Semillion was added to the blend.

The first batch of 115 000 x 6 was bottled and released in May 2015.

The 2015 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc is available at the cellar door for R60 per bottle.
